Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

August 2008

Master's Message

Brethren,

At the Stated Communication on July 24, I read and proposed three amendments to the Bylaws and Standing Resolutions of the Lodge. Because some of the Brethren suggested important technical changes after the first reading, I have revised the proposed amendments and will read them again at the first Stated Communication in August, so that they may be fully considered and voted on at the first Stated Communication in September.

I have enclosed the revised version, including all changes, for your careful review and consideration. A two-thirds vote is required to pass each of these changes to the Lodge Bylaws and Standing Resolutions, and they will be voted on separately. I urge you all to attend Lodge for the discussion and vote in September. I will reserve my written comments on each of the proposed changes until that time, but suffice to say that each is amply justified and preferable to the existing By-laws and Standing Resolutions, and I urge you to approve their adoption.

Please also join us for all of the Degree work and interesting presentations in August. On August 14, Most Worshipful Donald Maynard Robey, Past Master of our Lodge and Past Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, will present a fascinating paper on the history of Andrew Jackson Lodge and its relationship with our Lodge. The Brethren of Andrew Jackson Lodge will dispense with a meeting they are holding at the same time, and join us for Most Worshipful Robey's presentation.

Nota bene: The Ladies Night event originally scheduled for August 9 has been rescheduled to September - please watch the online Master Plan and the September Trestleboard for further details.

Finally, the Grand Master's One Day Class Degree conferral will be held at the Alexandria Valley Scottish Rite Temple at 1430 West Braddock Road, beginning at 7:30am on Saturday, August 16, and continuing to about 3:30pm that day. Our Lodge does not have any candidates who have elected to take the degrees that way, but please note that the Grand Lodge has summoned all Lodge officers to attend to welcome the new Brethren and witness the event. Please let me know if you are an Officer and for some important reason cannot attend that day.

I look forward to seeing all of you in August!

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Douglas H. Wood
Worshipful Master
