We have a good number of candidates making progress towards the Master Mason's Degree with their Catechism coaches, and accordingly will focus on excellence in ritual again in the month of June. We will confer degrees on candidates at Called Communications on Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 10. The plan at the first Called Communication is to examine a candidate on his Entered Apprentice Catechism, and if he is found proficient, pass him to the Degree of Fellowcraft. At the second Called Communication, we plan to initiate a candidate into the Mysteries of Freemasonry. The Senior Deacon, Bro. John Paul Olson, will both confer the Degree that evening and present the Degree Lecture.
I have designated the first Stated Communication on June 12 Bring a Friend Night. If you know of a man who is interested in becoming a Mason and would be a good fit for our Lodge, please invite him to attend with you. The Senior Warden Bro. Heber Charles Willis III will give a presentation on the History of Freemasonry in Virginia. Both the presentation portion of the evening and the Festive Board afterwards will be open to non-Masons.
In order to partake, you must reserve space for you and your guests at the Festive Board by emailing reservations@aw22.com or by telephoning the Senior Steward Bro. Joshua David Adler at the number contained in this Trestleboard.
Our second Stated Communication on June 24 will be a very special evening as it is the Lodge's annual Saint John the Baptist Day Table Lodge. Please note that this meeting is on a Tuesday, not a Thursday, and that it begins at 5:30 at Gadsby's Tavern in Old Town, Alexandria (by Dispensation). As is traditional, we will process to Christ Church in the company of Old Dominion Commandery No. 11, Knights Templar, present a donation to the poor of the City of Alexandria, and hear a sermon on charity by the Rector of Christ Church. After returning to Gadbsy's Tavern, we will be particularly honored to hear a Presentation on Freemasonry and the Holy Saints John from Bro. Tobias Churton, a prolific Masonic author who is travelling from Exeter University in England to speak to us.
Note that you must purchase tickets for this event, which are $30.00 - you may buy them in person from me or by PayPal on the Lodge website, www.aw22.org
Please join me in congratulating and welcoming the new Lodge Secretary, Bro. Helmut Karl Hentschel. He has already proved himself competent and worthy of this important office. I have also appointed an Assistant Secretary, Bro. Jerry Lee Sargent, to assist the Secretary in the discharge of his various duties.
I congratulate the Lodge Officers on their energy, enthusiasm, and excellent work this year and look forward to our work together in June.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Douglas H. Wood
Worshipful Master
